Weston Village is home to a vibrant community with a rich history dating back to the 18th century. However, recent years have seen an uptick in crime rates that threatens the safety of residents, businesses, and visitors alike. 

We are a group of local business owners and loyal customers who deeply care about the vitality of our beloved Weston Village in Toronto. Our personal experiences have shown us that more needs to be done to significantly improve safety in our area. 

Here's what we are seeing and why we are participating in this petition;

• There is a poor reputation of Weston; so customers, my family or friends do not feel safe on the street or want to visit.
• There aren't enough police and bylaw officers assigned to our ward to deal with the frequency of issues on the main street.
• Businesses can't stay open late, have difficulty keeping staff, feel they are not a priority and are solely responsible for crime prevention efforts. 
• Toronto Community Housing is not being held accountable for tenants that cause issues in the neighbourhood or in their building at 1901 Weston rd; and they do not provide enough support or resources. 
• There are no social service workers on the street being proactive to held those who are street involved or struggling with mental illness/addiction.
• There is a need for increased community investment and infrastructure improvements (i.e. lighting, public spaces) we should be prioritized for as a designated Neighbourhood Improvement Area 
• Our concerns have been dismissed by our elected officials and various stakeholders and responsibility has been deflected.

We believe that by addressing the issues above more strictly, it can help deter criminal activity and foster a safer environment for everyone. This is not just about protecting businesses; it's about ensuring that all residents feel safe walking down our streets at any time of day.

We urge local authorities to find solutions to take immediate action on this matter.
