The Weston Histtorical Society has hosted many previous tours of the Weston's Historic Homes,  is looking for volunteers with a House Tour that it is hoping to do in October 2011.

Opportunities include:  Selecting the homes; contacting the owners; designing and printing programs; coordinating volunteers; selling tickets; promoting the event, and, of course, cooridnation of the actual dau.

Interested parties would be required to attend one meeting per month with a couple of hours per week doing tasks on your own.

World Famous Peter's Barber Shop will be Celebrating its 50th Birthday

This year, Peter's Barber Shop at 4 John Street, Weston will be celebrating 50 years of cutting hair in a unique shop which also doubles as a Hockey Museum.  Peter has pictures and memorobilia of some of hockey's legends and many of them have come by the shop to sign Peter's famous Hockey Wall of Fame.  They include Dave Keon, Gordie Howe, Scotty Bowman and Ken Dryden, just to mention a few.  Peter is planning a big party for the 50th anniversary and if you stay tuned, in a short while, more details will be posted, including the date of the celebration.

12 Division Neighbourhood Tavis Initiative Community BBQ

This summer 32 more neighbourhood police officers will be patrolling the Weston Road - Lawrence Ave area on foot and bicycle.  The kick-off event for Tavis will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the parking lot on the cormer of Weston Rd and Little Ave from 5 - 7 p.m.  Come out and find out about this great police initiative that is destined to make Weston a safer place to live!  Everyone Welcome.

The Keelesdale Park Bridge Open House

St. Clair West Services for Seniors (2562 Eglinton Avenue West  - second floor,)

 

TTC is undertaking a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for a new bridge that will provide an alternate entrance to facilities at Keelesdale Park while construction work for the Eglinton Scarborough Crosstown LRT is taking place. The bridge will help traffic flow on Eglinton during construction and provide a permanent link and access between the York Community Centre and Chris Tonks arena.

City of Toronto Recreation Service Plan Public Consultations

Parks, Forestry and Recreation in collaboration with other City divisions and partners is developing a five-year Recreation Service Plan to ensure that the City is meeting the changing recreation and leisure needs of Toronto residents now and in the future. Specifically, the Service Plan aims to ensure that all Torontonians have equitable access to quality recreation and leisure services that are relevant and reflective of each community's needs. The plan will be comprehensive and will include recreation programs currently offered by other service providers.

 Funfair at Weston Memorial Jr. PS Fun Fair.
 The annual Weston Memorial Junior Public School Fun Fair will take place on  Thursday, June 2,  200 John St. from 6-8 PM. The event features a Wild Animal Exhibit, Falconry Exhibit, inflatable castles, unique games including gator golph, horse races,  raffle and silent acution featuring a golf package compliments of Weston Golf and Country Club, hot dogs, hamburgers and popcorn. Play all day passes available.
The Fun Fair is also collecting old cellphones to give to the Toronto Zoo as part of their Phone Apes program which helps raise money for care of the monkeys and apes at the Zoo.
